CONTEST NO STRETCH FOR LOCAL STARS
LOCAL calisthenics star Claire Humphreys will lead a strong Geelong contingent when the state championships get under way this weekend.
Humphreys will compete in the seniors for Robynmore tomorrow, while Ellie McCorkell will represent Avonde in the intermediates at the Palais.
“Claire will compete in our premier event and it is a great opportunity for our girls to be centre stage,” said Calisthenics Victoria chief Liam Murphy. “Her form has continued through the national championships and clearly she is in a really good space in competition at the moment. She is competing for one of the strong clubs and it’s exciting to see how she goes.” represent Junior Keera Robynmore Beasley on will Monday, while Summer Dridan (Westcoast) and Taliah Eastgate (Geelong) will compete in the sub junior category next month.
The five local calisthenics stars head into the state championships in sizzling form, producing strong results at the recent national championships for Victoria.
Humphreys finished fourth in the senior calisthenics duo and first in the team event at the championships, while McCorkell was part of the intermediate winning Victorian team.
Beasley won gold with the Victorian junior team and Dridan and Eastgate teamed up for bronze in the sub juniors.
“It’s a great spectacle and the sport is amazing to watch. The girls in Geelong have made a contribution from a state perspective, but in some respects the club competition is amazing in itself to watch,” Murphy said.
“It really, really is quite a strong competition.”
