MAINTAIN ORDER TO MAKE MALL MORE FRIENDLY

RECENT calls in this paper related to the CBD Mall are wishful thinking.

The contentious people inhabiting the mall have every right to be there, and that is just about it.

The big failure is with council, and the police. Council had a big success with the security guards it once had there but who were withdrawn, basically as a commercial decision.

A police presence has been an onand-off thing, with the police, like the council, making a similar commercial decision to save on the cost of supplying the human resources required to monitor the mall.

Possibly the best option might be to return the security people to the mall, rather than the proposed guntoting PSOs, simply to reduce the intimidation factor related to the guns.

The mall problem is a failure of governance, more than anything else, because if the authorities frequented the place as often as the usual suspects, a little more order might be maintained and the place might be a little more user-friendly for others. Gary Oraniuk, Geelong West

BRISBANE MOVE MIGHT BE GOOD FOR MCCARTHY

WITH Lincoln McCarthy’s impending move to Brisbane, watch how he — as Vardy, Varcoe and Caddy have done — improves out of sight after leaving the Cats. Terry Southall, Bannockburn

V STANDS FOR VICTORIA, AND FOR VICTORY

WELL, the coach did his best, and the Cats have exited the finals early as usual.

The players must have organised their family snow trips early. Maybe they swapped tickets with the Dees.

Who am I barracking for?

I still have nightmares over 1992 and 1994. Being a Victorian, there are one or two sides l tend to dislike, the Pies being one.

I am going for the Vs — Vardy and Varcoe. Good luck boys, and may the best V win. Terry Bohan, Belmont

KAREN Matthews for Prime Minister, please.

Or at the very least, give her a key lead role in the royal commission for aged care.

COLAC RESIDENTS PUZZLE OVER MISSING MEMBER

SARAH, Sarah, wherefore art thou, Sarah?

Like Juliet searching for her Romeo, Colac residents must be ask- ing themselves where their missing local Federal member has gone.

An office opened with great fanfare in April, quietly closed months later in August. Residents were turned away, told they are now part of new electorate boundaries which don’t take effect until the next election, which is months away.

Come on, Sarah, with another Prime Minister talking the talk of a new, better approach, we thought you were better than that!

Is the ending of your love affair with Colac just the beginning of another Shakespearean tragedy? Chris Speldewinde Corangamite voter
