MP hits at Labor City Deal

- CHAD VAN ESTROP

CORANGAMITE MP Sarah Henderson has hit out at Labor for funding a Geelong City Deal that “excludes any direct investment” in her electorate.

More than nine months after the City Deal was signed, Ms Henderson has spoken out about a lack of funding, but is yet to reveal how the Federal Government will fund the deal.

“Our government will be making some very positive announcements about the City Deal,” she said.

“I am working very closely with Prime Minister Scott Morrison and the responsible minister, Alan Tudge, to ensure Corangamite receives its fair share.

“Federal Labor’s announcement of a City Deal that excludes the Corangamite electorate from any direct investment is appalling.”

Federal Labor announced it would match state Labor’s $153 million pledge for the City Deal.

“Labor’s proposed investment in central Geelong, the Geelong waterfront and the convention centre are in the Corio electorate and the Shipwreck Coast masterplan for which funding is also proposed is located in the Wannon electorate,” Ms Henderson said.

“While I strongly support these projects, I am shocked federal Labor would endorse a City Deal that excludes funding any projects in Corangamite.

“I have been working hard to deliver the very best deal for Geelong, Corangamite and our region over many months.

“I am speaking out now so that my constituents know that I am fighting for them every step of the way.”
