Ex Queenscliff councillor eyes Upper House seat

- CHAD VAN ESTROP

THE Greens have costed plans for building more public housing, and putting solar panels and battery storage in Victorian public schools, ahead of its tilt for an upper house seat at the upcoming State Elec- tion. The party announced former Borough of Queenscliffe councillor Lloyd Davies as its candidate for Western Victoria yesterday.

He will campaign on stopping the sale of public assets to big corporations and protecting farmland and the environment from conventional onshore gas drilling.

Mr Davies, who narrowly missed out on winning a seat at the 2014 election, is a civil engineer specialising in water infrastructure across western Victoria, and grew up on a small farm on the Bellarine Peninsula.

“Voters across western Vic- toria tell us they want a change from the two old parties who just seem in it for themselves,” Mr Davies said.

“We also have costed plans for putting solar and batteries on all Victorian public schools, building more public housing for those who need it, and stopping the sell off of our public assets to big corporations.”

Greens Leader Samantha Ratnam said Mr Davies’s professional experience would help him in his role if elected.

“With Lloyd’s experience as a representative on council and as a water engineer, he is just what our Parliament needs,” Ms Ratnam said.
