Pretty good mother

-

GUN broodmare Pretty Penny continues to produce at the top level.

Tony McEvoy-trained Dollar For Dollar fell short of claiming a maiden Group 1 win for her progeny in the Rupert Clarke Stakes last week.

The mare, now with breeding giant Coolmore, was once owned by former local breeder Bill Cockram.

Every runner she produced under Cockram managed to secure a Group or Listed placing with Sertorius and Dollar For Dollar her two best.

Dollar For Dollar, by High Chaparral, was only edged out by gun import Jungle Cat in the Rupert Clarke.

The six-year-old, owned by Geelong’s Peter Mullen and George Medved, will now head to the Group 1 Toorak Handicap at Caulfield on October 13.

“He is a good horse,” Mullen said.

Rezealient looks likely to follow in the footsteps of half-brother Sertorius and excel over a staying trip.

The Sebring gelding placed in the Group 1 South Australian Derby last preparation and still holds nominations for the Caulfield and Melbourne cups.

He is trained by the Lindsay Park team led by master David Hayes. MEANWHILE, George and Jamie Medved tasted success yesterday with the Darren Weir-trained Mr Garcia claiming the Benalla Cup.

Mr Garcia finished strongly to claim the $125,000 race.

“It was a great run for us considering the stable thought we were a run short,” Jamie said.

“If he pulls up OK we are off to the Hamilton cup.”

Rezealient also ran home well in the cup, but is looking for 2400mplus.

A run in the $300,000 Group 3 Geelong Cup (2400m) on October 24 is a possibility.
