More than one path towards dream career
THERE are plenty of pathways to your dream career.
2017 Geelong High School captain Jenna Funston is studying a bachelor of biomedicine at Latrobe University.
The St Albans Park 18-yearold was hoping “to get into (bachelor of) physiotherapy straight away”, she said.
“But I didn’t get the ATAR for that,” Ms Funston said.
“I was planning into going into biomedicine and then transferring straight away but after this year I’ve realised I actually do enjoy doing the biomedicine course so I think I’m just going to stick with that until the end,” she said.
Miss Funston said she plans to complete the bachelor’s degree, and then “hopefully” get into the masters of physiotherapy.
Ms Funston said she was a “bit disappointed” when her ATAR meant she wouldn’t do physiotherapy straight away.
“But I just hoped that when I came to doing (biomedicine), that I’d still enjoy it, which I do,” she said.
Ms Funston has uni for two and half days each week, and travels to Latrobe’s Bundoora campus from her Geelong home, and is enjoying life at university.
“It’s good. I enjoy getting work done and not having to be there every day,” she said.
Ms Funston said there were paths to pursue careers.
“Eventually it’s just going to work out and you’re going to find something that you want to do,” Ms Funston said.
“Even if you don’t get (the ATAR score needed), there’s always a pathway that can get you somewhere that you want to go.”
