DIVINE PLANNING

How you could transform 1855 church

- TESSA HAYWARD

STUNNING plans have been approved to transform the former Ceres Uniting Church, which has just been listed for sale, into a luxury family abode.

The vendors, in consultation with architect Nicholas Burns, created plans to renovate the church at 17 McCann St and extend it to form a family residence.

These plans have been approved, giving the buyer the opportunity to put them into place without the hard work of going through the design process.

Whitford, Newtown agent Tony Young said there was massive interest in the prop- erty as a lot of people have had their eye on it for a while.

“The vendors have gone through an awful lot to get to this stage and they have done a lot of hard work,” Mr Young said.

The vendors are only selling the property as they have secured another property in their dream location.

They bought the 1266sq m property in 2016 at auction for $500,000.

The church was built in 1855 and was originally the Wesleyan Methodist Church.

The last service was held at the Ceres Uniting Church in December 2015 as the congregation had fallen to as few as three.

Approved plans show the church structure will be trans- formed into the main bedroom suite with sitting room, bedroom, walk-in wardrobe and ensuite. At the rear of the church, glass will connect the old with the new extension.

This section runs along the rear of the property and includes a study, two bedrooms that share the main bathroom and another bedroom with ensuite. The house will then run parallel to the church.

This space will include the garage and spacious open-plan kitchen, meals area and loungeroom.

Plans show the U-shaped house will have central landscaping.

The property will go to auction on November 10 at 1pm. Price hopes are $680,000$750,000.
