It’s building into an epic finish

- Surfing with ROBBO sport@geelongadvertiser.com.au Four-day surf forecast:

THE final three days of action at the Quiksilver Pro in France should be highly entertaining, with large swells moving in on the southwest France coastline.

The beach at Hossegor where they run this event produces some of the most powerful sand bottom surf in the world.

It also produces incredible barrels that will hopefully ideally suit Australia’s top two chances — Julian Wilson and Stephanie Gilmore.

Wilson was the standout surfer in Round 1 of the event and he will hopefully seriously challenge the top two Brazilians Gabriel Medina and Filipe Toledo, who are currently dominating.

Gilmore has an ideal chance to secure her world title in the next few days.

She is through to Round 3 and faces a lowly rated wildcard, which should virtually ensure that she advances to the quarter-finals, and par- ticularly in the larger surf, she should be favoured to win.

The final two days should happen tonight and tomorrow and I’m expecting spectacular barrels from both men and women. We are stuck in some bad wind patterns at present, which have just about made all local surf options unsurfable most of this week.

By tomorrow, conditions should slowly improve with lighter winds tending more to the north.

Through the weekend we can expect reasonably clean fun small waves.
