VERSATILE ROLE UP FORWARD

- LACHIE YOUNG

GARY Rohan says he expects to spend most of his time inside Geelong’s forward-50 in 2019 as part of a new look Cats attack.

The fleet-footed former Swan will be reunited with one-time teammate at the Geelong Falcons, Luke Dahlhaus, after signing a two-year deal.

Rohan said his early discussions with new coach Chris Scott were primarily about the pressure he could provide the Cats close to goal next year.

“He (Scott) has said I could play forward or back depend- ing on where they need me but I could play as a second tall or be used to put pressure on as well,” Rohan said.

“If a tall comes to me I am quick enough to get away but if a small comes to me I am pretty strong so I can take them deep and get them one-onone.

“So I do have strings to my bow that I can use and I just want to get back to playing some good footy and being that leading, marking player again.”

Rohan’s versatility means Geelong will be tempted to use him off half-back at stages, a position he has excelled at for Sydney in the past.

But at 188cm and with the Cats leaning towards changing up their game plan next season, he said he was excited to start in attack and see what happens.

“I have probably played my best footy down back but I have also played some pretty good down forward as well,” Rohan said. It will be good to get an opportunity to stay in one spot and cement that spot.

“Hopefully I start as a forward, do all I can to help Tomahawk out and it is exciting to have Luke Dahlhaus back there and some new recruits, so the forward line might look a bit different but it is going to be exciting.”
