Troy’s super excited

SUPERCROSS will return to Geelong if tomorrow night’s event turns out to be the success organisers hope.

Australian legend Troy Bayliss, 49, whose company is running tomorrow night’s show at GMHBA Stadium, said he could not be more pleased with how the track had turned out.

“The track is pretty much complete; it’s great to get the guys to come along for a bit of promo and just help with the last bit of promotion for the event, also get a little bit of feedback as well,” Bayliss said yesterday.

“Things are going really well, ticket sales are going really good. I’m really confident it’s going to be a great weekend.

“For me, it’s really important though of course being a racer myself, I want to have a track that the racers actually love to ride on as well.

“It’s looking like they’re having so much fun already, so that’s a bonus.”

Bayliss, a Moto GP race winner and three-time Superbike world champion, said GMHBA Stadium — which hasn’t hosted an event of this type since 2009 — was the perfect venue for Supercross racing.

“There’s always hurdles to overcome being involved in events for so long now, but we’re on top of it all,” he said.

“I think it’s going to be great Saturday night and so many people are coming along already, but really hope the people of Geelong get behind and support the event because we’d really like to come back again.

“We’ve gone out on a limb to make it as good as we can, bringing it to a great stadium like this, so I think it’s going to pay off and hopefully we can make it happen more often. I love seeing the boys in action here.”

Bayliss will race Round 7 of the Australian Superbike Championship in Phillip Island starting today before returning to Geelong to enjoy Saturday night’s event.
