WINTER CHALLENGE ROLL OFF

Thirteen weeks of winter bowls will come to a close at City of Geelong under the roof on Tuesday night. The final pits Lara’s Brendan Umbers, along with teammates Joe Van Baar and Lance Kelly, against City of Geelong’s Craig Elliott, Zane Lugg and Sam Elliott. Play gets under way at 7pm.

BIG TIME FOR BOURKE

Ocean Grove’s Australian under-18 champion Kira Bourke continues to enjoy a golden patch of success this week after being named in the Victorian ladies’ state team to play Tasmania in December. Bourke will make her debut in the senior team after being selected from state trials a fortnight ago.

GBR TRIPLES FIRES UP

Highton and St Leonards will host the first rounds of the GBR men’s and ladies triples championsh­ips on Sunday. Twelve teams will contest the women’s event, while 14 will aim for championsh­ip glory in the men’s. Play gets under way at 10am.

NATIONAL SUCCESS

Veteran Geelong bowlers have made their mark on the national stage in SA. The Victorian men’s team yesterday won gold in the over-60s national titles, while the women’s side won both of its last two matches to sneak into third position. Geelong was well represente­d, with Craig Elliott and Steve Sullivan featuring in the men’s event and Veronica Kelly and Faye Richardson in the women’s.
