AFLW DRAFT

Tuesday, 12pm, Medallion Club, Marvel Stadium

WHAT ARE THE ‘ZONES’?

The Victorian region is split into three zones, with players able to nominate either the whole of Victoria, Melbourne metro (all Victorian teams except Geelong) and Geelong only.

Players can only be drafted by clubs within the zones they select.

Zones are deemed necessary while the league remains parttime, as players are juggling existing work and university commitments

GEELONG’S DRAFT HAND

Geelong will enter Tuesday’s AFLW draft with picks 1 and 2, with Falcons Nina Morrison and Olivia Purcell among the contenders for the Cats’ early selections. Morrison, who has nominated “Geelong only”, is likely to go No.1.

The Cats have missed out on potential No.1 selection Madison Prespakis, who has nominated for “Melbourne metro”. Prespakis, a Sunbury teenager, and Morrison were the two TAC Cup standouts this year.

Geelong could theoretically draft Morrison with its final pick, given no other club has access to her, but it is understood the Cats believe that approach would only disrespect the draft rule.

The Cats can also draft players from their VFLW program who do not yet have a contract.
