GEELONGBOUND WARNE NEXT BACHELOR?

Spin King spills on life, love & reality TV

- JEMMA RYAN

AUSTRALIAN cricket legend Shane Warne has not ruled turning to reality television to find a new flame.

The 49-year-old revealed to the Geelong Advertiser yesterday that while a stint on The Bachelor was “highly unlikely” he wasn’t a sure thing to reject the opportunity if it presented itself.

“In my life I know never to say never,” he said.

“There’s no lady in my life at the moment. I am very single, and happily single actually.

“I think the best thing you can have is a great relationship and the next best thing, if you haven’t got that, is to be single.”

The father of three, who is widely regarded as one of greatest bowlers of all time, will be in town today to promote his new book, No Spin.

“I’ve been absolutely blown away with the response. I think everyone has loved my honesty in the book and I think people are getting a better understanding of who I am,” he said.

“There’s been 12 or 13 unauthorised biographies on my life, throw in a stage musical as well, I think it was time for me to set the record straight on a few things.”

The book provides a candid insight into Warne’s international cricketing career and life in front of the cameras, including personal reflections on his childhood, divorce and role as a parent.

With his 50th birthday nearing, and his children all grown up, Warne felt now was the right time to provide an honest recount of his journey to date.

“(The kids) are really proud of the book which makes me happy, they contributed and I was pretty emotional reading what they thought about me,” he said.

“There are a couple of chapters there for the cricketers, like the art of spin, which I think they will like.

“I also think people will enjoy getting into my mind and how I used to think … the mental side of the game.”

Warne said he is looking forward to returning to Geelong where he has plenty of family and sporting memories.

“I spent a bit of time in Geelong as a kid, down in Lorne and Colac,” he said.

“I used to go a little bit further down to Gerangamete near Colac. My mother’s parents had a dairy farm there.

“I played football and cricket down there. I got reported for striking three players in 1988 in one of my last games at Kardinia Park playing for St Kilda.

“One of my great mates Sam Newman is obviously King of Geelong. Billy Brownless likes to challenge him for it but I think Sam will always be the King of Geelong.”

Warne will be speaking about his book No Spin and signing autographs at QBD Books in Westfield Geelong from 12pm-1pm.

“I think the best thing you can have is a great relationship and the next best thing, if you haven’t got that, is to be single.” SHANE WARNE
