Mighty Macy is a superstar in the making

AUSTRALIAN women continue to dominate world surfing and it looks like we have another potential superstar on the scene in NSW Central Coast surfer Macy Callaghan.

Callaghan is just 17 and managed to make the final on surfing’s big stage in France last week where she finished runner-up to US star Courtney Conlogue.

Last year she won the World Junior Championships and she absolutely looks ready to step on to the elite championship tour in 2019.

She follows in the prestigious footsteps of probably Australia’s greatest ever era of champion female surfers, headed by Stephanie Gilmore, Tyler Wright and Sally Fitzgibbons.

While the three dominated over the past decade, the global talents among the best women surfers in the world is definitely expanding and out of the US alone, surfers like Lakey Peterson and especially 16year-old Caroline Marks will see Australia’s dominance fully tested.

That’s exactly why it is great to see Callaghan progressing so fast on to the world scene.

Callaghan has one major event to compete in this year, the Port Stephens Pro near Newcastle, in a little over a week’s time. She only needs to make a few heats to secure her spot on next year’s elite tour.

Four-day forecast: Today might be the best of the coming four days, with light clean winds and moderate swells. Into tomorrow and the weekend, wind and swell conditions look average and the next major swell is due early next week.
