THE GREAT OUTDOORS

Carpenter Jack Harman hopes to reap the reward for installing an outdoor kitchen during a 12-month renovation project at 336 Myers St, East Geelong.
A built-in gas barbecue, sink and overhead heaters are part of the custom design.
“I reckon if you can afford it, every home should have the luxury of an outdoor kitchen,” Mr Harman said.
Whitford, Newtown agent John Moran said outdoor kitchens had only emerged as a trend in the past five years.
His colleague Heidi Trempel has two properties on the market, at 1/126 Kilgour St, Geelong and 85 Maud St, Geelong with next level outdoor areas incorporating barbecues, pizza ovens and coal grills.
“People are watching those design shows like The Block so outdoor living spaces have become a lot more popular,” Mr Moran said.
“People want to be able to entertain at home and entertain outside during the week.”
He said buyers were prepared to a pay a premium for such luxuries, which were worth investing in at the higher price bracket.
“If you have a high-end home it’s the next level of entertainment,” he said.
Maxwell Collins, Geelong agent Laura Vander Noord said the vendors of 16 Foster St, South Geelong loved welcoming neighbours to their large outdoor kitchen area.
“It’s one of their favourite bits of the home,” Ms Vander Noord said.
“They host all the neighbours for Christmas and other family gatherings, it’s like a communal hub for the whole neighbourhood.”
The addition of a pot belly fire allows them to use the space all year.
