Model students help Cottage by the Sea

-

A TRIO of Deakin University students volunteered their time to build an architectural model of the planned Cottage by the Sea redevelopment.

The School of Architecture and Environment students responded to a call by the Queenscliff charity for willing helpers to build a small replicate of their big vision. The three volunteers — construction management graduate Abir Mahmud and second-year architecture students Kirsty Robson and Leif Canuto — spent about two weeks working on the project.

Cottage by the Sea will use the model to boost it’s chances of securing funding and planning approval to update the 80-year-old facility. According to the organisation’s annual report it has already been granted $1.5 million of federal funding, which it will dollar match to bring the project to life. Project manager David McDonald and architectural and interior designer Stephen Akehurst are contributing pro bono.
