Top sides on the move

-

THE top four sides in Division One of GBR pennant made the most of a favourable draw to break away from sides outside the finals bracket on Saturday.

City of Geelong (97), Drysdale (89), Ocean Grove (66) and Torquay (64) now have a healthy break on the chasing pack, with only Highton (53) keeping touch.

One poor rink result — Mick Creati’s 7-45 loss to Craig Hodges — proved a disaster for Highton in its 17-shot loss to Ocean Grove as it won the other three rinks.

City of Geelong was given a solid workout by Bell Post Hill, which took a rink off the unbeaten ladder leader. In the end Craig Elliott’s 10-shot sway over Dieter Gerke proved the key.

Drysdale had a lucky escape at home against Belmont with two rink wins and a tie in its two-shot victory.

A 19-shot win by Drysdale’s Brad Prior over Steve Davies was cancelled out by David Ross’s 20-shot victory for Belmont against Aidan Keranen.

With Callen Inderberg and Robert Agg producing a 16-all tie, Drydale’s John Fry had a deciding result with a threeshot win over Robin Hayes.

At Torquay, Ashley Prosser’s 10-shot win for the home side over St Leonards’ Barry Culph was decisive.

Prosser is a new skip this season and up until this round the best he had managed was tie in round 2.

But he held sway with the support of lead Joe Issell, Wayne Canning at second and the experienced Gary Banks in third. Banks, having spent time at Geelong West and Highton, is proving a valuable mentor to Prosser.
