It’s a triple threat for Bareena

-

BAREENA’S credentials as Premier bowls’ No. 1 side will be tested in the next three rounds when it faces the three sides immediately below it on the ladder.

Having been pushed to three shots at Eastern Park on Saturday, it is suddenly looking a little vulnerable.

Still on top with 94 points, it is at home to Sebastopol (3rd, 76 points), away to Queenscliff (4th, 64) and then faces a home green showdown with equal leader Ocean Grove (2nd).

Bareena did the hard work early at Eastern Park, building a lead before the break which allowed it to hold on.

With the home side taking two rinks, Dan Priddle’s 10shot win for Bareena over Adam Martin proved the difference on the day.

Priddle said his rink opened the game well and by the break held an 11-shot lead.

It traded ends with Martin’s rink for the rest of the game to finally win by 10 shots.

Priddle said that Ben Wilding’s rink was behind by five shots at the break, but only slipped by three after the break.

Brannon Shelton’s rink dropped by six shots after the break to finish four shots down, but it proved close enough to grab the match points.

In other games, Ocean Grove had a big win over Highton (79 points), Queenscliff toppled Webbcona by 35 shots despite a rare loss from Steve Sullivan, while Lara picked up valuable points with a big win on the road against Victoria, getting through by 38 shots.

In Ballarat, new side Buninyong produced a great result, pushing home side Sebastopol all the way.

Buninyong grabbed two rink wins and failed by just five shots overall.
