Week showcases science solutions
NEW approaches to old problems will be explored as part of Barwon Health and Deakin University Research Week.
The free annual event, now in its fourth year, returns with a diverse five-day program that will showcase the region’s research activities and help educate and inspire industry professionals, school groups and members of the public.
Deakin University professor Saeid Nahavandi, a world leader in robotics, gave a keynote address to open the event yesterday, speaking on how robotics is transforming medicine.
Dr Erin Hoare, who is also an AFLW player, is one of four Women in STEMM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine) panellists who will share their career journeys with the next generation today.
She will be joined by Professor Maria Forsyth, Professor Tania de KoningWard and Dr Shama Islam.
Later in the week, Mark Kotowicz will speak on the topic of missed opportunities in osteoporosis and Dr Olivia Dean, from Deakin, will make a presentation on her world-leading trial to establish the first medication to help ice addicts overcome their addiction.
A debate on the physical and emotional costs of playing sport will round out activities on Friday.
