ABOUT 3000 people lined up for a good cause yesterday for the inaugural Run for Geelong’s Kids.
The event, raising money for a new children’s rehabilitation centre at Barwon Health, included a 10km run, 5km run, 5km family walk and 1km kids run.
Peter Kerr was first across the line in the 10km run, with a time of 31min-12sec and Tom Hockley Samon was first to finish the 5km run with a time of 15:52.
Charlotte Norman was the first female to complete the 10km run with a time of 40:32 and Rebecca Waters was the first female across the finish line in the 5km run, with a time of 17:37.
Run For Geelong’s Kids’ Amy Bett said the day was “fabulous” and looked set to continue in years to come.
“The community spirit was amazing,” she said. “The high- light of the day was at the start t line when everyone was lined up ready to go for a good cause.
“The kids run is always incredible, it’s great to see families participating.”
Geelong Cats’ Joel Selwood and fiancée Brit Davis, netballer r Madi Robinson and Paralympic Gold medallist Richard Coleman were among contestants in the event.
Ms Bett’s advice to people considering entering the event next year was to start training early.
“Just do it, start training at least three weeks before if you’re doing the 10km run,” she said.
The Geelong Advertiser is unable to publish results and times for Run For Geelong’s Kids entrants as event management decided not to partner with the paper this year.
