Underdog’s strong third place
OCEAN Grove Formula Ford driver Zac Soutar has overcome strong competition to finish third in the Australian Formula Ford Series Championship.
The 21-year underdog had an impressive win at Sandown International Raceway, being one of the only privateers in the past few years to win a round during the season.
As a privateer, Soutar’s team consists only of his family and a few mates to help.
Having the odds against him is one of the motivations that has given Soutar his edge over the other competitors.
“It’s a challenge but I sort of revel in the challenge, we enjoy the challenge of trying to take on these guys” Souter said.
“For the other drivers, they are going into the weekend knowing their cars are going to be fast because they have teams behind them with 10 to 20 years of knowledge of how to set up formula 4s”.
From getting a go-kart for his 11th birthday, Soutar said his main source of inspiration for racing came from his father, Shane Soutar, a former racer who competed both nationally and internationally.
“Growing up in racing and seeing how dedicated and determined he was got me in to it,” Soutar said about his father.
Soutar is preparing for next season, with the aspiration to take the championship in 2019.
Soutar will be in Geelong this weekend participating in the Geelong Revival Motoring Festival.
