Colour us as winners
New St Leonards look may inspire outsiders
THE debut of a new club pennant shirt will be driving St Leonards tomorrow.
And if the home side can knock over ladder-leading City of Geelong at home, their new colourful design will stand out just as much as the result.
Desperate for a win to keep their top-four chances alive, Saints chairman Barry Culph hopes the new look will inspire the players tomorrow.
“There has been an enthusiastic acceptance within our club regarding the new look,” Culph said.
“Hopefully, we can take that enthusiasm out onto the greens and return with a positive performance.”
Kerry Gooley returns to the line-up for the visitors, while for skipper and club chairman Zane Lugg it will be his first trip to the eastern end of the Bellarine Peninsula.
After many years of competing in the Geelong-Ballarat competition, Lugg is one player in the City of Geelong side who has never been drawn to play a pennant match at the club.
Ocean Grove will welcome the undefeated Drysdale side, and skipper Alan Callow believes consistency is the key.
“Four rinks firing at once is what all sides work towards,” Callow said.
“We are yet to have found that form.
“Our best is good enough and if four rinks can find that consistency, we will be hard to shake.”
Owen Clark returns to the line-up skipping for the Grovers; and Jackie Webb will play her first game in Division One this season.
Leopold will be hoping for back-to-back match points after getting its first win on the board before the break.
Taking on Bell Post Hill in last year’s Division Two grand final rematch, there will be a lot on offer for the club that can finish ahead after 100 ends.
The chance to keep pushing themselves out of the relegation zone is a fair prize for the winner.
Belmont got within two shots of Drysdale in its last outing and will need to replicate that consistency again when hosting Torquay.
Geelong Cement will be keen to bounce back from its loss to Leopold when hosting Highton 2.
