SUBURB TO BREAK $4m

- NICOLE MAYNE

A STUNNING Newtown property previously featured in Home Beautiful magazine is poised to break the blue-chip suburb’s price record.

The renovated Victorian era house at 188 Noble St has been listed for sale with price hopes of $4 million to $4.2 million.

Newtown agent Dale Whitford said the owners had spent a considerable sum transforming the heritage residence into a luxury family home.

But he said despite the big price tag, there was nothing pretentious about the interior’s casual sophistication.

“One of the things I love about the house is that sometimes when a house is very expensive in its build, you can feel a bit intimidated,” Mr Whitford said. “This house is very comfortable, it feels welcoming.”

The house, on a 1300sq m block with a north-facing rear yard in Newtown’s exclusive college precinct, last sold in 2009 for $1.08 million.

It has since been stripped back to its shell and rebuilt to include five or six bedrooms, multiple living rooms and three bathrooms.

The main open-plan living area has views over a solar heated swimming pool that’s surrounded by formal landscape architect designed gardens. The original facade and timber ceilings have been incorporated into the renovation.

Mr Whitford said the quality of builder David McDonald’s work was immediately apparent on entering the single-level house.

“It’s just a beautiful home,”
