BROS SHOW THAT HAIR MEANS CARE

-

A UROLOGIST at Geelong’s St John of God Hospital is growing a mean moustache to raise money for Movember, a men’s health charity funding medical research to stop men dying young.

Richard Grills spends most of his working week treating prostate cancer in Geelong men, but this year he is going the extra mile by growing a moustache for Movember.

“It is not a great look on me and it is not popular at home,” Mr Grills said.

“But I’ve seen the direct impact of the Movember campaign on improving men’s health, so I figure it is a small price to pay to raise funds for a good cause.”

Mr Grills is part of a team of 10 ‘Mo Bros’ at St John of God who hope to raise at least $5000 to go towards improving many aspects of men’s health, addressing prostate and testicular cancer, depression and suicide.

“Movember reminds men take their health more seriously, see their GP and consider getting checked for prostate cancer even if they have no symptoms — because that is the time it can still be cured,” Mr Grills said.

Mr Grills said he regularly comes across new research funded by the Movember movement, and that there are many prostate cancer nurses operating in Geelong funded by Movember.

“It is continuing to have a tremendous impact,” he said.

“And it is a bit of fun — I’m not taking my moustache seriously and neither is anyone else.”
