Local surfers make state team
A HOST of local surfers have made the Victorian Junior Surfing Team to compete at this weekend’s Surf Dive N Ski Australian Junior Surfing Titles at Victor Harbour.
The Victorian team will be headlined by former Australian champions Ellie Harrison (Barwon Heads) and Xavier Huxtable (Jan Juc), who have both proven themselves in the South Australian surf, winning Rip Curl Gromsearch events there in the past.
“The Victorian Junior Surfing Team is developing a level of notoriety for their preparation and commitment to the Surf Dive n Ski Australian Junior Titles,” Surfing Victoria high performance coaching director Cahill Bell-Warren said.
“The Surfing Victoria Performance Division coaches are excited to taking the #newvicmafia to South Australia, in particular an area where the beaches and conditions will really suit our squad.”
The local region is well-represented across all age groups.
Jan Juc’s Indi White and Xavier Huxtable made the under-18 boys state team; Arabella Wilson and Angela Ball made the under-18 girls side.
The region also has strong representation at under-16 level, with Zeph Lamperd (Bar- won Heads), Ethan Huxtable (Jan Juc) and Bhodie Williams (Ocean Grove) in the boys’ team and Jazz Wylie (Jan Juc) in the girls’ team.
At under-14 level, Jan Juc trio Patrick Hughes, Willis Droomer and Tanner Reid will line up in the boys team and the girls side will headline Mia Huppatz and Ciele Bouvier (both Jan Juc).
The Australian School Surfing Association Titles will again be part of the event.
In the Victorian schools division, locals competing include Xavier Huxtable, Arabella Wilson, Zeph Lamperd, Indi White and Bhodie Williams.
