Jack of all trades leads AT to victory

- ALEX THOM ST ALBANS JOSH CONWAY

ALEXANDER Thomson claimed first-innings points against the previously unbeaten St Albans-Breakwater on Saturday and will have its sights set on outright victory next weekend.

The stunning victory inside a day over St Albans comes just a week after the Vikings outrighted another finals contender in Geelong West, confirming their status as one of the premiership favourites.

After being put in to bat and bowled out for an “under par” 140, Alexander Thomson responded in impressive fashion by skittling the Supersaints for just 84 in 32 overs, with standin captain Jack Clapham claiming his second consecutive six-wicket haul with 6-38.

“We thought when we scratched our way to 140 that if we could take four or five wickets it would’ve been a good day and be in with a chance for next week, but ending up taking all 10 was great,” Clapham said, who was standing in for the absent Jay Dunstan.

“The bowlers bowled in the right areas and stuck to their plans ... they did their job and that’s what helped us.”

St Albans captain Sean Bogan (3-27) had Alexander Thomson in early trouble at 3-19, before Bailey Forssman fell for just four off the bowling of Josh Warrington (1-21), leaving AT wobbling at 4-23.

But English import Dan Harris (42) and veteran Michael Cox (31) steadied the ship, with Clapham hitting some lusty blows on his way to 24 to make their way to 140.
