MP steps down over sexy texts
NATIONALS MP Andrew Broad has quit his job as an assistant minister after allegedly sending salacious text messages to a young woman he met through a ‘sugar daddy’ dating website.
The married Mildura-based federal politician is alleged to have bombarded ‘Amy’ — who uses the online alias ‘Sweet Sophia Rose’ with messages of a sexual nature, according to New Idea magazine.
It is alleged Mr Broad, 43, met the young woman last month while he was at the expensive Aqua restaurant in Hong Kong after a period of online communication.
One leaked message, alleg- edly from Mr Broad, says: “I’m a country boy so I know how to fly a plane, ride a horse and f--- my woman.”
In a statement yesterday, Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack said he had accepted Mr Broad’s resignation as the Assistant Minister to the Deputy Prime Minister.
Mr McCormack said it was appropriate for the MP to resign because of the nature of the allegations made.
‘Amy’ alleged in the New Idea story the pair met through a website for sugar daddy arrangements, where well-off and usually older men are willing to spend their wealth on attractive younger women in exchange for their company.
She said he once texted her saying: “I’ve booked a flashy room to seduce you back to.”
The pair allegedly later met at an exclusive Hong Kong restaurant where she later left because she felt uncomfortable.
News Corp Australia revealed last year Mr Broad had claimed to be the victim of a plan to discredit his reputation on a popular dating app.
