It’s go for Green

- RUSTY WOODGER

A SELLOUT crowd will descend on Mt Duneed Estate tomorrow for the latest instalment of A Day on the Green.

British band Florence and the Machine will take to the stage in front of an expected audience of more than 20,000.

Workers have been busy at the Pettavel Rd site getting everything in place for the show, which comes on the back of other A Day on the Green performances, including from Robbie Williams and Bryan Adams.

Florence and the Machine’s venture Down Under will be its sixth national tour.

Headed by vocal powerhouse Florence Welsh, the band is known for hits including You’ve Got The Love, Dog Days Are Over, Spectrum (Say My Name) and Never Let Me Go.

Their highly anticipated fourth album, High As Hope, was released in June and debuted at No.2 on the Australian ARIA chart.

Roundhouse Entertainment promoter Michael Newton said fans were in for a treat at tomorrow’s concert.

“The show is looking spectacular … The reviews of all the Florence shows so far in Australia have been incredible,” he said.

“It’s a really exciting day for us, the winery, the region and the fans coming to see Flor- ence. She puts on a spectacular show, so it’s going to be a great day and the weather is looking good.”

Gates will open at 4pm, with supporting acts Jack River and Marlon Williams taking the stage at 6pm and 7.15pm respectively.

Florence and the Machine will perform from 8.30pm.

Because of the large crowd, organisers are urging patrons to allow plenty of time to get to the venue.

Buses to the event from Geelong, the Bellarine Peninsula and the Surf Coast have sold out, however services are still available from Melbourne via melbourneonthemove.com.au.

Meanwhile, tomorrow will also be a special day for local chef Claire Smith, who has baked a cake for lead singer Welsh.

The Earth Angel Pantry manager, who is also providing backstage catering at the Day on the Green, said that she had made a “whimsical” two-tier cake featuring raspberry beetroot and lemon passionfruit.

“She (Welsh) has a very gypsy vibe, so I’m trying to tie in with her theme,” Ms Smith.

Ms Smith has previously cooked for a range of celebrities, including Jodie Foster, Sacha Baron Cohen and Toni Collette.

Her cakes and slices are available from Geelong West cafe Five ft One. More details: earthangelpantry.com.au
