Highton man guilty of rape

A HIGHTON man and his male friend have been found guilty of raping a 20-year-old woman in 2016.

Luke Merryfull and Shaun Bloomfield, both 24, faced a three-day County Court trial this week.

After deliberating for less than a day, a jury of eight men and four women yesterday found Bloomfield, of Balmoral, guilty of two counts of rape and one count of sexual assault. her say “stop”. “There was no forcing,” he told the court.

Bloomfield said Merryfull had sex with the victim while he was in the caravan.

He admitted having sex with the victim after Merryfull left the caravan.

Merryfull and Bloomfield were both 21 at the time of the attack, the court heard.

Bloomfield and Merryfull pleaded not guilty to all charges.

The pair will face a plea hearing in front of Judge Gerard Mullaly in Melbourne on April 8.
