Proud to fly the flag for our LGBTQ community

- TAMARA McDONALD

A COLOURFUL celebration of diversity took over Johnstone Park yesterday. The Geelong Rainbow Pride March and Fair Day was part of the Geelong Rainbow Festival, which ran from Friday. Now in its second year, the festival’s program featured events including ballroom dancing and an LGBTQ health and wellbeing forum. Geelong Rainbow Inc co-president Jo Bangles described yesterday as “overwhelmingly amazing”. “It’s going to take a while to sink in how much support we have in our community,” she said, adding that crowds had increased significantly from last year. Thousands of people attended events across the festival’s program and about 600 people too part in the march. “The highlight was definitely the Pride March and the Fair Day,” said Ms Bangles. “It’s just been amazing, the turnout has been phenomenal.”
