REAL LIFE

-

In tonight’s season finale of BackRoads, we are introduced to what must be the most isolated town featured. Heather Ewart hits the road for the long haul, meeting some of the residents of Windorah, in Queensland. Home to a mere seven residences, the closest towns are Longreach and Birdsville – both a 10-hour drive away. As can be expected, being so remote comes with its challenges. Ewart meets pub owners Marilyn and Ian Simpson, who had their lives turned upside down when Ian found out he had advanced bowel cancer. Since then, Marilyn has pushed the Queensland government to improve medical communications with their town.
