JUST LIKE HOME FOR VICTORY

- RYAN REYNOLDS

Melbourne Victory may not have walked away with all three points every time they have come to Geelong, but coach Kevin Muscat says the region feels like a second home for the powerhouse A-League club.

MELBOURNE Victory may not have walked away with all three points every time they have come to Geelong, but coach Kevin Muscat says the region feels like a second home for the A-League club.

Victory will host Newcastle at GMHBA Stadium on March 2 and Muscat said he was looking forward to returning to Geelong for another season.

Melbourne has had mixed fortunes on the Kardinia Park turf, winning just one of its four A-League games at the ground.

“We’ve enjoyed coming down here. It will be nice to come back,” Muscat said.

“We’ve been here a number of times, enjoyed some good results as well.

I remember back to qualifying for the (Asian) Champions League here, which was a memorable night in our history.”

However, Victory’s stranglehold on the region will be under threat when Western Melbourne Group enters the competition next season.

The new franchise is in talks to play games out of GMHBA Stadium until its purpose built stadium is ready.

However Muscat said Victory had a strong supporter base in Geelong.

“We’ve averaged about 15, 16k in the games we have been here,” he said.

“The general public in Geelong have been great to us and in return (we have) put on some real good, entertaining performances, and long may it continue.”
