Sky has no limit for helping the needy

- OLIVIA SHYING

A CHANCE to do a load of washing gives hundreds of Geelong’s most vulnerable community members the dose of dignity they need.

Orange Sky Australia has provided a free travelling laundry service to rough sleepers in Geelong for almost 11 months.

In that time the organisation’s 60 volunteers have helped with 1160 loads of washing.

The Australia-wide organisation was founded by Brisbane mates Nic Marchesi and Lucas Patchett in 2014.

The duo — who were in Geelong this week — have since expanded the concept to include 28 services operating across the country.

Mr Patchett said the organisation would be celebrating its first birthday in Geelong next month.

“Over the past 11 months, Geelong volunteers have helped to positively connect people doing it tough through clean laundry and genuine conversation,” he said.

He said the organisation had been supported by dozens of volunteers, but needed more assistance to be able to provide more services and reach more people in the region.

“Support from the community has been amazing, but we want to have an even bigger impact across Geelong and help more friends on the street,” Mr Patchett said.
