OH BABY, WHAT A WIN!

DAYS AFTER WELCOMING A BABY DAUGHTER, TOMAHAWK SEALS THRILLING ROUND 1 VICTORY OVER THE PIES:

- Tim Kelly will write for the Geelong Advertiser every second Saturday during the AFL season

LAST night was unbelievable.

That winning feeling is something that can’t be replicated and it is what we play for.

After Christmas, the preseason drags out a little bit, so playing the JLT Community Series recently was good fun.

But it was so nice to be back playing footy for premiership points and to be at the MCG on a Friday night in front of almost 80,000 people and knock off one of the premiership favourites in Collingwood was amazing.

It is so important in big games to start well and my main focus last night was to make an impact in the first quarter, so it was nice to get my hands on the ball a bit early on.

My story in overcoming so many setbacks at the draft is no secret and playing in these big games and moments like last night is something I won’t ever take for granted.

Looking around the room and seeing the smile on the faces of our four debutants makes all of the hard work we put in during summer worth it as well.

Only 12 months ago that was me, and for them to have a win in their first game is a great reward.

They all had their family here supporting them in the rooms and there is nothing better than sharing these moments with them.

But as much as we will enjoy this win, we have to move on quickly and turn our attention to Melbourne.

I often take my older son with me to the pool for recovery, so I will do that today and take it easy, and then get stuck into our reviews to see the areas that we can improve on for next week.

We have a tough start to the year with six or seven really hard games and after a great first-up win we have to make sure we are ready for the Demons on Saturday night.
