Leaders leaving Gordon

- TAMARA McDONALD

A CHANGING of the guard is under way at The Gordon TAFE, with the deputy CEO joining the chief executive in leaving the institute.

Deputy CEO Darren Gray will be leaving the TAFE after more than a decade at the institute, the past five years as deputy CEO.

It’s understood he has chosen not to seek a renewal of his contract in order to take up a new role. His last day will be at the end of this month.

Chief executive Lisa Line’s resignation was announced last month. A new CEO will be recruited later this year.

Former director of global education Jackie Taylor has already departed, heading to Perth to take up a role at Murdoch University.

It is understood being close to family was a significant factor in Ms Taylor’s decision to leave The Gordon.

Ms Line is leaving The Gordon to take up a new role as deputy vice-chancellor for pathways and vocational education (PAVE) at Swinburne University of Technology. She will start there in June.

Ms Line said she thought the institute was in a “fantastic position” and had received “tremendous support” from The Gordon.

“We’ve got a new facilities master plan that we’ve been working on, and some of those projects are now coming to fruition,” Ms Line said.

She said the institute had received “amazing opportunities”, including Jamie Oliver’s Ministry of Food relocating to the East Geelong campus in a partnership with The Gordon.

Ms Line has been CEO at The Gordon since 2013. She previously held senior roles at the institute including deputy/chief operating officer and director of organisation development.

Joe Ormeno, who is currently the chief operating officer, has been appointed acting CEO.

He will commence in the acting role from May 6.
