TIGERS MUST FIX FADEOUT TREND

- RYAN REYNOLDS Torquay Tigers: Modewarre Warriors: Ocean Grove: Queenscliff Coutas: Ocean Grove:

TORQUAY coach Dom Gleeson has questioned his team’s mindset after a second final-quarter fadeout in as many weeks in the Good Friday loss to Modewarre.

The Warriors slammed home eight unanswered finalquarter goals to turn a 14-point three-quarter time deficit into a comfortable 35-point win at McCartney Oval.

Torquay kicked one point in the final term and did the same the previous week in its loss to Barwon Heads.

The Tigers had led that game against the Seagulls by 13 points at three-quarter time and lost by 26 points.

Gleeson said he was confident fitness was not an issue with his players and the problem was more mental. the first three weeks of the BFL season.

Jull won’t suit up on Anzac Day either, saying he was yet to train since he was concussed in the first practice match of the pre-season.

“I got concussed in a practice match in March and I’ve had headaches ever since that day,” he said.

“I played that first game and I got a knock and I haven’t pulled up well, to be honest. I’m trying to get over the head

“There’s a trend there. I just personally think it was between the ears for us,” the coach said.

“We got tested both weeks in a row by two far better sides and we just didn’t respond. A lot of that comes down to — the players are there, the calibre is there — the mentality of some of them.

“I don’t want to say we’ve run out of legs because I feel like we are fit enough. I think we just lost our endeavour.

“Two weeks in a row now we have lost our bravery with aches but hopefully they will go away soon.”

Standing on the sidelines alongside fellow co-coach Luke Matthews, Jull said he’d had a rare headache-free afternoon.

Although the Hawks’ limp performance left him and the Drysdale coaching staff with headaches of another kind ahead of a Anzac Day clash against Portarlington.

“I don’t have a headache right now, but it’s a daily ball in hand. I don't think we body-lined the ball at times.

“We lost the ball on the outside.”

Gleeson said he would sit down with the playing group this week to discuss the concerning trend of final-quarter fadeouts.

“(It’s a) total mind-lapse in a lot of the playing group. Even the first half (against Modewarre) I thought there were guys who didn’t have an impact,” he said.

“I totally think mindset thing.

“I think we have been, up to this point, fairly positive with player feedback around what we are watching and showing in regards to edits. Now it’s picking it apart and showing the good but also showing the bad. I think this group will respond, I know they will.” it was a thing,” Jull said. “I’m seeing doctors and hopefully it will turn around soon. It’s one of those things that I’m not 100 per cent about.

“If you get a hamstring it could be 2-3 weeks, whereas I’m not sure about concussion. I’ve had concussions in the past, but normally it’s a week or two and you’re fine.

“This is a bit different. And any sort of activity brings them on, so it’s obviously the brain telling me I need to rest.

“That’s what the doctors have said … if I push it too hard I’ll just go backwards and I’ll have to climb back up again.

“It’s hard because sometimes I feel fine and I’m ready to go and you do a little bit of stuff and then it brings on the headaches again.”

Asked if he was out indefinitely, Jull replied: “Probably.”

“I don’t know, to be honest, how long I’ll be out for. I had a reasonable week last week and I’m hoping that will carry on
