Easter leadfoot drivers nabbed
ONE leadfoot motorist was clocked 52km/h over the speed limit as police swooped on hoons during the Easter break.
The man, who was allegedly doing 152km/h in the 100km/h zone near Inverleigh was one of five drivers in the region who automatically lost their licence on Good Friday.
Inverleigh policeman Leading Senior Constable Chris Reynolds had a busy long weekend, also detecting: TWO middled-aged males both allegedly nabbed doing 133km/h; A FEMALE allegedly clocked at 139km/h; and, A YOUNG male allegedly doing 91km/h in a 60km/h zone.
Sen-Constable Reynolds handed out 20 traffic infringement in the Shelford and Inverleigh region on Friday and a further 10 traffic notices on Saturday.
“These infringements form part of Operation Nexus, a five day high visibility road policing operation over the Easter long weekend,” Sen-Constable Reynolds said.
“The statewide operation focused on country road users, speed, impaired drivers, seatbelts, on and off road motorcycles, fatigue due to long distance travel and driver distraction through mobile technology and navigation devices.”
Sen-Constable Reynolds said drivers needed to understand their speeds could cause death or serious injury.
“The operation is focusing on the safety of the community in the area,” Sen-Constable Reynolds said. “Part of it is that there will be a lot of enforcement on rural roads.”
Sen-Constable Reynolds said drivers who did speed should expect to face consequences for their actions.
Operation Nexus ended at midnight on Sunday.
Police were still out in force yesterday with a focus on key areas including the Great Ocean Road.
