Petrol prices falling

-

A MAN was last night fighting for life after a horrific smash near Moriac.

Emergency services were called to a collision between a car and a truck at the corner of Cape Otway and Mt Duneed roads just after 10am.

The driver and sole occupant of the car, a 71-year-old Irrewarra man, was flown to the Royal Melbourne Hospital in a critical condition.

The truck driver, a 60-yearold Torquay man, was not injured.

Victoria Police spokeswoman Natalie Butler said it was understood a car was travelling north along Cape Otway Road about 10.15am when it allegedly attempted to turn right onto Mount Duneed Rd, colliding with a southbound truck. The police investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information or who witnessed the collision is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. GEELONG drivers are finally in for some financial relief at the bowser, with petrol prices on the way down.

The average price in Geelong yesterday was 132.5 cents a litre for unleaded.

Meanwhile in Melbourne, the average price was higher at 136.5 cents a litre

Fuel prices hit eye-watering heights during the Queen’s Birthday long weekend.

As it began, most of the Geelong region retailers appearing on the RACV online fuel watch tool were selling unleaded for more than 154 cents a litre.

But prices have dropped dramatically.

Yesterday the majority of the region’s retailers selling unleaded for 130.8 cents a litre to 135.8 cents a litre, according to the RACV online fuel watch tool.

Prices were significantly higher on the Surf Coast, with unleaded going for between 145.8 and 150.8 cents a litre at Anglesea and Torquay.

RACV manager of vehicle engineering said fuel prices in Geelong were trending downward and should continue to fall.

“RACV advises motorists to fill up as needed as we approach the low end of the cycle,” Mr Case said. since
