Falcons coach Daffy looking for leaders after fadeout

- LACHIE YOUNG

GEELONG Falcons coach Luke Daffy concedes the time for talking is done after his side gave up another winning lead on Saturday to fall to the Gippsland Power by four points.

The Falcons found themselves 27 points up at threequarter time but conceded six goals-to-one in the final term, and Daffy said after several discussions with his players about fading in and out of matches, he wanted to see some leadership shown in the last four games of the season.

“I think the conversation has been surrounding that all year,” Daffy said of his team’s inconsistency. “But it has probably passed being able to talk about that now and it is actually about executing in those situations.

“So we are a bit frustrated that we are in those positions and yet the job is not getting done.

“From our perspective it comes back to some leadership, so we need our playing group to take some responsibility at times to make good decisions and execute what we are trying to do.”

Despite just one win for the year Daffy would not rule out the possibility of securing a finals berth via the NAB League wildcard round but said the main focus in the next two months was continued development.

He praised the efforts of two of his bottom-age players in Mitch Langdon and Henry Walsh for their efforts against the Power, who will be one of the teams to beat come September.

“Mitch Langdon had a fantastic four-quarter game and played his first full match at centre half-back as a 17-yearold,” Daffy said.

“He was really strong and defended well and gave us some good drive from halfback.

“And Henry Walsh was really competitive again in the ruck as well, and his last fortnight has been very, very good so it is a credit to him for the hard work that he has been putting in.”
