CHANGES TO BE AWARE OF
Victorians can expect several changes from July 1, including: Payroll tax — Exemptions for pay to employees on maternity leave expanded to all types of parental leave. Regional payroll tax — Reduction in the rate and the removal of the business location test.
Luxury cars — Duty rate to increase on vehicles worth more than $100,000 with concessions for ‘green’ and ‘primary
producer’ vehicles. Foreign investment — Increase in the additional duty rate to eight per cent. Commercial and industrial
property — Land transfer duty concession introduced for regional Victoria.
Energy prices — Retailers will have to move all customers on a ‘standing offer’ to a new, cheaper default price as set by the Essential Services Commission.
Solar power — The next stage of the government’s panels, batteries and hot water system program begins with a simplified rebate process.
Pet exchange register — For all dogs and cats advertised for sale or rehoming, requiring a valid microchip number an register source number.
Baby bundle — First-time parents will get a bundle including a nappy bag, a teething ring or toy with information on teething, key advice on child safety, feeding, sleeping and an
emergency contacts list. School breakfast program — Expansion to include lunches at 1000 public primary and secondary schools every day. Specialist medical appointments — Regional and rural Victorians to get access to more specialist appointments in their communities.
Emergency workers — Mental health support for firefighters, nurses, midwives, child protection, corrections and youth justice staff and SES volunteers.
