Police patrols pay off in city

-

water flows at the mouth of Thompson Creek estuary had caused some limited localised flooding.

Surf Coast Shire Council, City of Greater Geelong, Great Ocean Road Coast Committee and Corangamite Catchment Management Authority will continue to monitor the situation.

Once a decision is made to open an estuary, the Corangamite CMA is notified and undertakes an assessment to inform the permit holder when and how an estuary can be opened.

A CCMA EstuaryWatch volunteer team has monitored water quality in Thompson Creek estuary on a monthly basis for the last five years.

If anyone finds dead or dying fish in an estuary, they should contact the Environment Protection Authority on 1300 372 842. POLICE officers have issued 17 penalty notices while patrolling Little Malop St on the first day of Operation Safeguard on Tuesday.

Two people were cautioned for theft while one was remanded for theft and ammunition offences.

A person was arrested on a safe custody warrant, another was arrested on whereabouts required and police returned a male to the Swanston Centre.

Police also conducted 623 preliminary breath tests.

Geelong Inspector Paul Edebone said Operation Safeguard Geelong would be “highly visible” and encompass all CBD police patrols.

Specialist officers from the Mounted Branch, Highway Patrol and Transit Safety division will join uniform and plainclothes officers on increased patrols.
