4 POINTS FROM CHRIS SCOTT’S PRESSA

-

Throwing key defender Mark Blicavs in the ruck again

“I’d be surprised if we didn’t play him in the ruck a little bit more as the season went on. As it pertains to this week, I’m not exactly sure just yet. We need to work through it a little bit more, but it’s nice to know it’s an option for us.”

Managing players such as Patrick Dangerfield

“I think it’s fair to say with us, over the course of multiple seasons, that we do prioritise managing our list. That means different things for different players, but right at the moment we think we’ve got a group of players outside the 22 and if there’s a chance they can play later in the year, or in a finals series, then we’d like to see them get exposed form with their teammates at AFL level. That’s more the focus with our management at AFL level. To be specific with Pat, if he’s available to play this week, he’ll play. If there’s any doubt that he could risk further injury, he won’t play.”

Confidence in Geelong’s ability to get a home final against an interstate club

“I haven’t thought about my confidence levels. I can say it’s a question best directed at the AFL. What I am sure of is we have no influence over it. It’s not our decision. I think it’s an interesting discussion for people to have. My bias is clear, so you should take what I say with a grain of salt. I’d pay much more attention to what the neutral observers have to say. Fundamentally, the AFL decides where finals are played. So if there’s something that people think is awry with the system, those questions should be directed at AFL. If the question is, ‘Would you guys like to play in front of your supporters at your true home venue?’, of course the answer’s yes. You’ll keep getting that answer no matter how many times you ask the question.”

Shortening the preseason to eight weeks

“I’m on record as saying, especially in global elite sports, that our pre-season is uniquely long and, in my view, too long. That’s not the popular view, and it’s not even a view that’s consistent within our footy club, but we can have great relationships and disagree on some issues.”
