CASEY’S A ONE-EYED CATS FAN

- ALEX BLAIN

A GIPPSLAND woman travelled almost 500km to Geelong and back to adopt two very special visionimpaired kittens.

Six-month-old Sage and Willow have one eye between them.

Casey Adams saw the kittens on Facebook, and knew they would be the perfect companion for her blind dog, Mickey Buns.

“My little dog loves cats,” Ms Adams said. “I’ve been wanting to get him a friend for when I’m at work.”

She said Sage and Willow are perfect because she didn’t want “anything too boisterous”.

While Mickey the dog was born blind, Sage and Willow were left vision-impaired after suffering from nasty bouts of cat flu.

The kittens had been in the care of the Geelong Animal Welfare Society since April after they were found “wandering in Geelong West”, according to GAWS spokeswoman Cara Kirwin.

The kittens were first put up for adoption on June 20, and the social media response was “insane”.

“There was a ridiculous amount of interest,” Ms Kirwin said. “It’s probably our highest performing post.”

GAWS’ Facebook post about the “cheeky” kittens garnered almost 800 likes, more than 700 comments and was shared 157 times.

Ms Kirwin said Ms Adams was the best candidate because she’s “used to looking after blind animals”.

Ms Adams said she enjoys looking after disabled animals, but “it’s really more about training the humans”.

“They (animals) adapt so well.”

THERE WAS A RIDICULOUS AMOUNT OF INTEREST. IT’S PROBABLY OUR HIGHEST PERFORMING POST. GAWS SPOKESWOMAN CARA KIRWIN
