BARELY SOCIAL CHANGES AFFLICTING OUR CLUB

-

READING the letter from Phillip Ormsby ( GA, 12/7), I would like to support his letter in saying that the Geelong Football Social Club is disgraceful the way it is run now.

I am a long-term social club member, who also has the support of a number of other 25-year to 35-year members.

It is so disappointing to see the way it is run; the amenities are wonderful but the dress code has all but gone. After noticing someone in shorts, I said to one of the door attendants “do you allow shorts to be worn in the social club now?” and his answer was, “I don’t know”.

I’m also concerned about the line up for the mad rush when the gates open, to get a seat together with family and friends.

Someone will get injured one day as this is due to not being able to have a reserve seat, where in the old social club you could.

Memorabilia not being put back due to upsetting people who do not support Geelong begs me to ask the question, where is the loyalty of management to the club that pays their salary.

I, with other long-term social club members, have had meetings with the social club management to express our concerns, however also to no avail.

It was always a privilege to be a member of the mighty Geelong Football Social Club, and as longterm members, we agree with Phillip Ormsby’s comment; it is a blessing we are winning games because if it were reverse, the club would, indeed, be thin on numbers. Trevor Anderson, Leopold
