IT’S GOT ITS OWN COOL ROOM!
A MODERN Newtown house so big it has a cool room instead of a fridge has hit the market with a $4 million price tag.
The six-bedroom family home at 22 Aphrasia St has been listed for sale with price hopes from $3.8 million to $4 million by the owners, who are downsizing.
Selling agent Dale Whitford said the house, built about a decade ago for a large family, was being sold after the children left home.
“The people there built it and they’re on the downsize trail as their kids are leaving or have left home — it’s a typical story for your big Newtown homes,” Mr Whitford said.
“It’s unusual in that it is a modern home in what’s typically a period area but I think that’s part of the charm — there’s a north-facing backyard, a lovely pool, spa and alfresco are there.
“It’s got an open fire in the alfresco area, a barbie, heaters and all sorts of stuff — you could be out there all year if you wanted to be.”
An oversized two-storey void above the entry hall makes a great entrance, with a formal living area at the front, along with a ground floor main bedroom suite.
But the real living was in the back, Mr Whitford said.
“The family room at the back is huge. You could play cricket in there, it is enormous,” he said. “The kitchen is really nicely done, they do a lot of entertaining there, so there’s not a fridge there, there’s a cool room.”
Mr Whitford said buyer interest was tested off-market.
“It’s a very nice house, I think we had a number of people through it off-market before we put it online and the response was pretty good,” he said.
“Upstairs there’s a really nice living space for the kids as well as a very big bathroom up there. They had the kids to fill it, so it’s designed for a larger family.”
Mr Whitford said he expected the buyers would be either local or from interstate and keen to buy a home close to Newtown’s schools, including The Geelong College, Geelong Grammar’s prep school, Sacred Heart and St Joseph’s, which are all within walking distance.
