CLUB FINDS TEMPORARY HOME

-

LONSDALE Golf Club members will be calling Queenscliff home for the next eight to 16 weeks as work continues on its course redevelopment.

When golfers return they will be able to play nine of the club’s new holes which have been designed by OCCM golf.

Lonsdale president John Christophersen said the agreement with Queenscliff meant the club’s golfers could still get a game in while they wait for work to be completed on their home course.

“We’ve done the redevelopment in two halves. So last June we closed nine holes and we’ve been playing on the other nine,” Christophersen said.

“We’ve gone through the 12 months. We’ve had a choice … there’s a couple of fairways and greens that need a bit more growing, they need a good spring.

“But we do want to get going on the second nine. So instead of extending the project, we’ve decided to close the course for a period of eight to 16 weeks.

“The reason we say eight to 16 is purely because of the weather.

“A good winter, spring and it could be eight weeks. But we couldn’t want any longer than December 1st.

“It’s going to be exciting to be on our brand new nine holes.”

The club is still working on its final nine holes, and it will also have a new clubhouse by the time work is completed by the second half of next year.

Christophersen thanked Queenscliff for helping Lonsdale get through its period where both nines will be out of action.

“They’ve been very accommodating and have made our members honorary members so we can play over there for the duration of the time our course is closed,” he said.
