AGB Training wins reprieve

- ANDREW JEFFERSON

TROUBLED Geelong training provider AGB Training has been granted a temporary reprieve over a decision to cancel its registration as a Registered Training Organisation.

The future of the training provider was thrown into doubt this month as it faced the possible cancellation of its registration.

The Australian Skills Quality Authority, which regulates courses and training providers to ensure nationally approved quality standards are met, last month moved to cancel AGB Training’s registration.

It said the provider was non-compliant with the requirements of the VET Quality Framework and National Code of Practice for Providers of Education and Training to Overseas Students 2018.

The pending cancellation was due to come into effect on August 19.

A stay order has now been granted from the Administrative Appeals Tribunal, meaning AGB can continue to conduct its business pending a review.

AGB’s chief executive officer Robert Dejanovic said it was an “extremely positive outcome” for AGB, and particularly for students and staff.

“I am delighted with the news and am keen for AGB to move forward,” Mr Dejanovic said.

“While this has been challenging period for me personally, our students and staff, I am confident that AGB will be able to resolve this matter with ASQA.

“AGB remains determined to have the present AAT Merits Review applications favourably concluded with ASQA as soon as possible and thereby secure AGB’s RTO operations well into the future.

“In the meantime, AGB continues to focus on its core operations of teaching its students and remains dedicated to achieving the best possible outcomes for its student cohort.”

Mr Dejanovic said AGB would continue to update staff, students and the public on the progress and ultimate determination of the AGB’s Merits Review applications in the AAT.

“AGB’s focus remains to ensure that its students, trainers and staff are not adversely affected and that the delivery of SURF Coast teenagers banded together for a day of wellbeing and relaxation yesterday.

The Girls’ Wellbeing Day aims to hightlight the importance of self-care and group wellbeing. Creative nouse came in handy as the students embraced brightly coloured craft activities.

The event was a joint project between Surf Coast Shire Council and Surf Coast Secondary College. the courses may continue without inconvenience or disruption and enable the students to achieve their qualifications,” Mr Dejanovic said.

In the meantime, AGB invites any staff or students who may have any queries to email: asqa@agb.edu.au

The AAT confirmed a stay of decision order has been made.

A conference by telephone is listed for October 7.
