Drama’s a real scream
Performing works wonders on self-confidence
I’VE been a part of the Lara Secondary College productions for as long as I can remember, and have never passed up an opportunity to be involved.
They have been amazing for my confidence.
As a girl who never liked to partake in class discussions, performing has helped me completely come out of my shell.
The best thing about being involved is the amazing fellow drama students, past and present, who I openly recognise as my drama family.
It’s a really awesome feeling being a part of a group who all actively express themselves and feel comfortable in the presence of people they personally may not be familiar with.
This year we have over 50 students involved across Years 7-12 and I have loved getting to know them all.
Our school productions are extremely inclusive. Everyone is able to get involved in whatever way they like, whether it be as an actor, dancer, singer, all three or even behind the scenes.
As a group we devise numerous scenes to create a script in a professional theatre environment and everyone’s input is appreciated.
This year the drama family have been working extremely hard every Wednesday after school and every second Sunday to develop our new original musical I’ll be Right Back, a horror sequel to one of our previous productions, Scream on Screen.
I’ll be Right Back is a hilarious parody of stereotypical horror tropes, that is guaranteed to make you laugh and jump all at once.
But this production would never have been possible without our wonderful team of director and producer Ms Fitzgerald, director of music Ms Ladd, choreographer — and former student — Leigh Rhodes and all of the other exstudents.
Performance dates are: September 13 and 14 at 7pm in the LSC theatre. Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 concession and can be purchased via www.trybooking.com/BCSFG EARLIER this year Bannockburn P-12 College came second in the Yamaha Great Start Grant.
This grant is only available to new schools starting a band program and was designed to give schools a boost in instruments and equipment and encourage students to start playing.
As runner-up, we received more than $2000 worth of new instruments. Our college chose a trombone and glockenspiel.
As a band member, I am impressed at how many of my fellow students have signed up. By the end of semester one we had 22 members and I hope it continues to grow.
I chose to join the band because I had never learnt an instrument before.
I chose trombone because it looked fun and you could pretend someone farted when they sat down.
Being a P-12 College (up to Year 9 so far) our band currently varies in ages from Year 5 to Year 9, which is fantastic for making new friends.
