Herbison backs winning ways in return bout

- LACHIE YOUNG

BARWON Heads coach Mitch Herbison says he expects his side to play in a similar manner in today’s second semi-final to how it did two weeks ago in Round 18 when it defeated Geelong Amateur by 41 points.

The Seagulls face Ammos this afternoon at Portarlington Recreation Reserve, with the winner to advance to the grand final.

But while Geelong Amateur has seen the best of what Barwon Heads has to offer, Herbison said it would still be business as usual for his players on game day.

“I think both teams will make a few little adjustments,” he said.

“We have a few changes personnel-wise and I am sure they do to, so structurally we might have a couple of changes but we will look to play our game style we have played for the majority of the year.

“We have tweaked it a little as we go but basically we have kept our game style pretty consistent throughout the year.”

Barwon Heads will welcome back Charlie Sprague (Falcons) and Dylan Holland (shoulder) into the team that defeated Torquay last week, which Herbison said was a positive indicator of just where his team was at.

“I think it is nice to know that our best footy stacks up pretty well against the likes of Geelong Ammos and Torquay because they are quality teams when they are up and about,” he said. “We have to make sure we put our best footy on the park though.

“Games like the Drysdale one (in Round 14) got us going a little bit and since then we have put together some good performances so hopefully we can keep the ball rolling.”

The loser of today’s clash will face the winner of tomorrow’s first semi-final between Anglesea and Torquay in next week’s BFL preliminary final.
