Huxtable turns up the heat

THE Hydralyte Sports Pro Junior is off to a good start although the great waves of recent weeks have gone missing for the final event of the important Pro Junior season.

Regardless, the best under-18 surfers in Australia are ripping up the small waves on offer at present.

It was an ideal start for local surfer Xavier Huxtable who posted two excellent 8.25 rides in his opening heat.

This was easily the topscoring and most impressive performance of the day.

If he can maintain that form through to the finals he’ll be the favourite to win the event and secure an important position, representing Australia at the WSL World Juniors in Taiwan in late November-early December.

With the event running at Jan Juc, Huxtable’s local knowledge is probably even more enhanced.

Small days at Jan Juc are super unpredictable and knowing the right and wrong waves to select can often be tricky for interstate visitors. For all Victorian surfers in the event it’s an ideal opportunity to measure up against Australia and New Zealand’s top young surfers and to view the best of the future talents emerging from both countries.

Four-day Surf Forecast:

Today and tomorrow look to deliver clean winds but only small swells, with the best and possibly only options being the beach breaks between Thirteenth Beach and Fairhaven. Heading into the weekend we should see a slight kick in swells, with the reefs offering small to moderate waves in the 3-feet range. Winds are generally favourable most mornings.
